My son, Andy Dyer, suffered a traumatic brain injury at the age of 3-1/2. After an 8-week coma, we were told he would never walk, talk, or eat again.
This was just not acceptable to my husband or myself. We began a series of non-traditional therapy, one of which was patterning. This involved about 50 volunteers a week coming into our house and helping me move my son in a cross-pattern which stimulates walking and crawling. Larry and his wife were 2 of our volunteers. After watching the movement of my son by these volunteers, Larry said he would like to make Andy a Quadriciser®. It was my understanding that this was the first made for a child.
We began using the Quadriciser® initially in conjunction with the patterning program and soon found that the machine moved Andy in a cross-pattern as well. This eliminated the need for volunteers and actually gave Andy and me more time to spend with the rest of our family.
The Quadriciser® has strengthened my son’s legs. They are stronger and no longer look atrophied. He can crawl with complete independence and can walk with support. His blood flow and breathing has improved from being able to exercise on the Quadriciser. I believe that the increase in blood flow has had a positive effect on his seizures as well.
